Mathematician, Engineer and inspiration for large parts of the Orion's Arm scenario. A tribute by former contributor Isaac Arthur https://youtu.be/sY203GvjPZc
20 July 2019 (Armstrong Day, 50 A.T.) Happy Armstrong Day!
Fifty years ago today, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first walked on the Moon. In the Tranquility Calendar, this is the last day of the year 50 AT. When the Apollo astronauts stepped on the Moon, only the planets in our Solar System had ever been observed. Today, astronomers have detected thousands of new worlds. The Milky Way has hundreds of billions of worlds waiting to be walked upon; the future will hold many more 'small steps for Man' if we can find the determination to make them.

Important Announcement!
The Orion's Arm Universe Project Discussion Forum is now open! All members of the Worldbuilding Group, Writing and Arts group, and 3D Modelling group are invited to join and continue the discussion there.
For the moment, we will be continuing to use the Yahoo groups for archiving, so don't unsubscribe just yet. Over time we will be moving the files, photos etc out of the Yahoo Groups and either onto the OA site itself or into the Forum, we'll be announcing that process as we go. When posting on the new forum, please try to put posts in the correct area. Hopefully the structure is clear and reasonably self-explanatory, but do post any concerns in the suggestion box. Mods will aim to move threads into the correct area if necessary, but a redirect will be left its place so you can see where we have moved it to. Any concerns, questions or suggestions can be posted here or (even better) on the new forum. Of course, you can also always contact any of the OA mods offline if you wish.
Announcing the Paul Birch Archive. The Orion's Arm Universe Project has collected all available material written by the late Paul Birch of the British Interplanetary Society, and is now making it available on this page. Includes papers on terraforming, moving planets, orbital rings and supermundane worlds.
Happy Tranquility Day! The Orion's Arm Universe Project commemorates the fortieth anniversary of the first Moon Landing, by fully switching over to the New Orion's Arm site. Note that the old site will no longer be available.
