In the context of gengineering and provolution, a human (or other biont) that has not been genomically modified from its original natural condition. Pure baseline humans are extremely rare; most baseline humans classed as "baseline" are actually nearbaselines that are very similar in phenotype and genotype to the original H. sapiens sapiens.
Baseline animals are found on many worlds and habitats, often in wildlife preserves; these creatures retain the genetic characteristics of the original population (whether they originated on Old Earth or any other garden world). However (as with humans) most such species have been mildly tweaked to adapt them to the local environment, even if they retain their original presapient characteristics.
