Areas of psychic studies range from mysticism and psychic and spiritualist phenomenon to occultism, and paraphysics to inquiry about the validity of psionics, to testing for the existence of psychokinesis and extra-sensory perception, to noetic speculation of the nature of consciousness and the relation between the mind and universe as a whole. Practitioners are quick to distinguish the supernatural powers they believe in from the natural powers of clarketech devices and from activities by higher toposophic powers or their tech.
Even after thousands of years, belief in the validity of the paranormal remains amongst a small minority of sophonts. Believers generally seek to gather corroborative evidence of these phenomena, but most consider this evidence debunked. Since the results are not reproducible under controlled conditions, it falls under the category of pseudoscience.
