The exact mechanism of generating ghostlight is unknown to lower level minds. Sapient theorists believe that, in some unknown manner, the archai are able to generate two high-flux beams of WIMPs and their corresponding anti-particles and then aim the beams to intersect at a desired point in space. Upon reaching the intersection point the two particle flows, which normally pass through virtually all forms of matter with little or no effect, begin to annihilate each other. This produces a massive burst of gamma radiation that apparently comes from nowhere. Ghostlight bypasses most forms of armor and is extremely difficult for moving targets to evade.
To date no entity below the third toposophic level has ever been observed to employ ghostlight weapons, and it is believed that no mind below the fifth toposophic level can actually create them.
