Maximal City, an example of maximalist architecture on Barzelona
In the STC periphery the long lived clade Gaudi of augmented posthumans have been resculpting the surface of their paludian subclass planet, Barzelona, by hand for three thousand years to date (10402 c.e.)
Having made their own tools, starting with flint, obsidian and microliths, they have mined and smelted to produce bronze and iron tools themselves.
Quarrying into the surface of the planet, they have begun to construct by hand an architectural shell world, with an elaborately designed system of underground crypts, undercrofts, buttresses, spandrels and squinches supporting the superstructure of towers, arches, bridges, spires and rotundas reaching kilometres into the sky.
As a long-lived hobbyist clade they have decided to incorporate many different architectural styles, including sumerian, khmer, romanesque, gothic, coronese, new Daffy fuddite, Pardes corporate and minimum surface fractal.
Unfortunately the champions of the different styles often come into disagreement, either resulting in bizarre piecemeal mismatched compromises or actual armed conflict, limited by tradition to mason's tools.
The use of treadmill driven cranes, bioid drawn conveyances and bioid powered mills is permitted, together with wind and water power, but no heat engines are allowed. Extensive roof gardens provide food for the Gaudi clade and for the large beasts of burden (Cyberoxen) who also maintain a link with the Known net and monitor the populations' physical and mental health.
