Meteorology
The study of the weather, either on planets or on/in megascale habitats. The field includes observation, simulation, and prediction of atmospheric phenomena such as wind, cloud, rain, atmospheric convection, weather fronts, storms, rainbows, halos, and "northern lights", the effect of terrain on the weather, planetary weather and weather and climate engineering, unusual phenomena like ball lightning and natural plasma displays, and the use of instruments like radar, satellites, microremotes, utility fog and areostatic nano to gauge atmospheric conditions. Meteorology deals with short-term atmospheric phenomenon, whereas Climatology deals with long-term weather patterns. Various specialised fields also deal with weather patterns in different planetary types, weather patterns specific to particular hab designs, virchuniverse-only weather simulations, and other areas.

- Greenhouse Effect - Text by M. Alan Kazlev
Increase in the global temperature of a planet as heat energy from sunlight is trapped in the atmosphere. Methane, carbon dioxide and water vapor all are greenhouse gases. A runaway greenhouse effect results in a Venus Type planet.
